The inspiration

Originally designed as a base for the Alcázar Cabinet, the console draws inspiration from the stands traditionally used with European cabinets of the 17th and 18th centuries, reinterpreted through lighter proportions and contemporary lines.

Crafted in primavera wood with a dark finish, its structure features a simply profiled top and long, slender legs. Antiqued brass details introduce a discreet contrast that emphasizes the geometry of the piece.

The Alcázar Console retains the influence of classical furniture while moving away from ornamentation, allowing its proportions, woodwork, and carefully executed details to define the design.

How it is made

The Alcázar Console has a contemporary design of slender lines that contrasts with the decorative richness of the cabinet it was conceived for. Although its appearance is simple, achieving the delicacy of its proportions requires especially precise cabinetmaking.

During its development, the relationship between its dimensions, its structure and the brass details is studied with care. Every element has to hold the visual balance of the whole and, at the same time, provide the stability needed to carry the cabinet.

Making it demands a meticulous fit between the different wooden parts. In a structure of such fine lines, the joints, the meeting points and the proportions are of fundamental importance. It is precisely the absence of ornament that makes every detail of the construction more demanding.

The brass elements are worked so as to integrate naturally into the structure, bringing a subtle contrast to the ebonized finish. That finish requires several stages of preparation, application and hand sanding to achieve the depth of colour and an even surface.

The Alcázar Console brings together two essential aspects of the way we make furniture: the knowledge of traditional cabinetmaking techniques and the ability to apply them to pieces of contemporary expression.

Its value lies in the precision needed to achieve such a slender structure and in the care with which each material is worked. Together with the Alcázar Cabinet, it shows how two pieces of different languages can complement one another through their proportions, materials and finishes.
