The inspiration
Inspired by mid-20th-century Italian modern furniture, the Barzio Table draws on the simplicity of geometric forms and the clean lines that characterized design during this period, when proportions and materials took precedence over ornamentation.
Its circular top, presented in an olive green finish, is distinguished by the depth of its color and the smoothness of its surface. The finish brings a contemporary interpretation to the design while preserving the simplicity and elegance of its form.
The Barzio Table reflects the influence of modern design through its understated aesthetic, balanced proportions, and a distinctive finish that gives the piece its own identity.
How it is made
The Barzio Table in green is a piece whose apparent simplicity conceals a highly complex manufacturing process. Its sculptural forms and the continuity of its surfaces call for extraordinarily precise work, both in its construction and in the development of its finish.
One of the greatest challenges lies in the joining of the two cones that form the base and the top. Both parts must be worked and fitted with great care so that their meeting point becomes completely imperceptible, creating the sense that the whole table is made from a single piece. Achieving this continuity demands a deep knowledge of the materials and great manual skill, since any irregularity would show in the final result.
Once the construction is complete, another of the most important processes begins: the development of its green finish. To achieve the depth of the colour and the evenness of its surfaces, our specialists apply successive coats of material, working and hand-sanding each one carefully before moving on to the next.
This process requires far more than applying a finish. It calls for understanding how the materials behave, controlling every stage, and knowing when a surface is ready to receive the next coat. This is knowledge acquired over years of experience, and it is what makes a continuous appearance possible, without the complexity of the work ever showing.
At Alfonso Marina we preserve and refine these traditional finishing techniques, applying them to contemporary designs that present new manufacturing challenges. Our ability to develop specific processes for each piece allows us to respect the original intention of the design, without having to simplify its forms to make production easier.
The Barzio Table in green reflects precisely that philosophy. Its value lies not in the number of decorative elements, but in the precision of its construction, in the many stages of hand work, and in the experience required to make two independent forms read as one.
Behind its simple silhouette and its flawless finish there is work that takes time, knowledge, and a skill that is only developed through years of craft.
