The details

The inspiration
Inspired by the mountain formations of San Sebastián, the Tourmont cabinet draws from the irregular lines of natural rock, reinterpreted through intricate ebony and maple marquetry. The combination of these woods creates a pattern of horizontal lines that adds texture, depth, and a distinctive contrast of tones.
The cabinet rests on a contemporary base with slender legs and antiqued brass stretchers. The simplicity of its structure contrasts with the decorative richness of the doors, creating a balance between tradition and modernity.
The Tourmont Double Cabinet stands out for the precision of its details, the richness of its materials, and a design that transforms inspiration from nature into a distinctive piece of furniture.
How it is made
The making of the Tourmont Four-Door Cabinet begins with a meticulous process of traditional cabinetmaking. Given its dimensions, particular attention is paid to the stability of the structure, the precision of its joints, and the proper functioning of all four doors. Our cabinetmakers work with primavera wood, employing traditional construction techniques, including floating panels that allow the wood to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature and humidity.
One of the cabinet's most distinctive features is the delicate pattern extending across its doors. To create it, our specialists select ebony and maple veneers, using their natural contrast to define the decorative lines. Each fine strip is individually prepared and positioned, with careful attention to its direction, thickness, and continuity.
This process demands exceptional precision. Each door must be worked in relation to the others, ensuring that the pattern maintains its proportions and aligns correctly when the cabinet is closed. Even the smallest variation can interrupt the flow of the design, making careful adjustments and inspection essential throughout the process.
At Alfonso Marina, we preserve these traditional woodworking techniques and develop our own tools whenever a design calls for specialized elements. This capability allows us to execute intricate decorative compositions without simplifying them to accommodate conventional manufacturing methods.
The antiqued brass hardware and details are carefully integrated into the design. The wood finish is developed through successive stages of hand application and polishing, bringing out the depth of its natural tones and the refinement of the decoration.
The Tourmont Four-Door Cabinet combines traditional cabinetmaking knowledge with the precision of decorative work carried out by hand. Its value lies as much in the construction hidden beneath its surfaces as in the individual lines that distinguish its doors. It reflects skills acquired through years of experience, which Alfonso Marina continues to develop in the creation of contemporary furniture.
