The details

The inspiration
Inspired by mid-20th-century French furniture, the Tourmont console draws on the elegance of 1950s design, a period when classical forms were reinterpreted through cleaner lines and more slender proportions.
Its elongated silhouette features a delicately profiled top and slender beechwood legs with an ebonized finish. Antiqued brass stretchers extend along the lower structure, creating a contrast between the deep, dark finish and the metal, characteristic of French furniture from this period.
The Tourmont Double Console revisits the sophistication of 1950s French design through a light structure, carefully considered proportions, and details that reflect the precision of fine cabinetmaking.
How it is made
The apparent simplicity of the Tourmont console is one of the greatest challenges of its making. Its contemporary lines, delicate proportions and brass details call for work of great precision, since every element is left exposed and the smallest variation can upset the balance of the design.
From the development stage, our specialists study the dimensions and the meeting points between the different parts of the piece with great care. Achieving a visually light structure, with fine, well-defined lines, demands a deep knowledge of wood construction and meticulous cabinetmaking.
The brass details are integrated into the design with the same attention as the structure itself. Making, fitting and finishing them requires precision in order to achieve a clean transition between the different materials.
The ebonized finish is another of the processes that distinguish this console. To achieve the depth and evenness of its dark tone, our specialists work the wood through successive applications and stages of hand sanding. Every surface is carefully reviewed until the desired result is reached, preserving the definition of the lines and details.
At Alfonso Marina, pieces like this one show that complexity is not always a matter of how much decoration there is. Behind an apparently simple design lie years of experience, command of the materials, and a precision that is only achieved through careful work at every stage.
The Tourmont console reflects our ability to apply the knowledge of traditional cabinetmaking to contemporary designs, where the quality of the making is appreciated precisely in the purity of its forms.
